Tropical North Queensland Travel Photos Part 2 - Cairns

This first photo is the only one that is not one I took. It is to show you the area from above. A truly magic place.

The lagoon is man made. It has been created from reclaimed Mangrove swamps and mudlfats. Photoshopped Pic from me.

The little artificial beach that forms the side of the lagoon. This is taken looking over the bay at high tide on the mud flats towards the Great barrier Reef.

Another shot of the little Beach

The Lagoon is a very popular tourist attraction. It is quite funny in a sad kind of way to see the English and Lighter skinned Europeon tourists get off the plane and head for the Lagoon. They are lily white and then two hours later they have turned the color of tomatoes. You cannot go out in summer during the day without being burnt.

The sunbaking and BBQ recreation area looking towards the Lagoon and pier hotel. It is a very leisurly lifestyle in Cairns all year round. The nightlife is great and there is always something to do. At weekens and on holidays there is always live bands around the lagoon and a small market selling handmade Dichroic and shell jewelry along with other arts and crafts.

Isn't it beautiful it truly is paradise. This shot is looking north at low tide over the mmudflats towards Port Douglas and The Daintree National Rainforest.

The BBQ's were free so I would take the kids down every weekend for a BBQ and swim.

Kaelan and Shayla with the Shop and Amenities behind them. Many backpackers sleep on the beaches around Cairns and come to the Lagoon to fry up a steak and have a shower and cleanup.

Low Tide Over the Mudflats towards the reef and ocean. Thats the Great barrier Reef in the distance. At high tide the water would be just behind Glen.

Sunset at the lagoon

Heaven

I can Dream. Cairns marina is part time home to many luxury Yachts.

The Battered Old Seaplane that Takes Tourists out to the Reef. I used to watch him take off and just wait with my camera ready, he was such a daredevil. I think he thought he was a world war 2 flying Ace.. or he actually was one.

One of the many seabirds. Looking towards False Cape at the entrance to Trinity Bay and the river.

Looking South along the river towards the mountains  with Gordonvale and Walshes Payramid (which is the largest natural pyramid in the world) in the background. Stunning.

Cairns Marina.

Looking Back Towards Cairns Esplanade.

I can Dream.

Looking Back towards Cairns CBD and Marina with Pier Hotel Resort.

Owning the Jetty. Can't half tell the local kids fishing from the tourist.

Late afternoon all the boats come back from the reef..The marina is one of the two main centres for tours and charters out on the Great Barrier Reef. The other is Port Douglas about 50 kilometres up along the coast road.

More to Come.
